Elephant Animal Orphanage –Daphne Sheldrick is a world–class conservation figure and the premier authority on the successful raising of milk–dependent infant elephant and rhino orphans. Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Animal Orphanage , can be only be visited for an hour every day between 11am and noon.

During this hour the baby elephants are brought out to play and to feed, and visitors can watch them from behind a rope. Wardens are on hand to explain the work of the Orphanage and to answer any questions.

This is a really fun activity in Nairobi that will also most likely touch your Heart. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Nursery bordering Nairobi National Park offers safe haven to orphaned baby elephants rescued from parks and reserves in Kenya. The nursery cares for the young elephants, including hand rearing them until they are old enough to be gradually introduced back to the wild in Tsavo East National Park.

Elephant & Rhino Orphanage: Nairobi, Kenya

The Elephant Orphanage (rhinos too) in Nairobi is one of the many things to do in Nairobi that are very unique.  Most of the things to do in the city involve getting up close and personal with animals and the Elephant Orphanage is one of them.  The upside is that you are able to get super close to baby elephants and even touch them.

The downside is that you only have an hour to do it and you might just be targeted and rammed by a baby elephant.  Okay I change my mind that was actually very exciting.  The organization that runs the Elephant and Rhino Orphanage is called the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Don’t confuse the The Elephant Orphanage with the Animal Orphanage. They are different.
