This annual movement sees hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope moving from the southern Serengeti to the Masai Mara, and we’ll get you from the beach to the Savannah with this five day tour designed to put you front and centre.

In five unforgettable days, you’ll visit all four of Tanzania’s most famous parks in pursuit of the Wildebeest migration

DAY 1 – ZANZIBAR –ARUSHA-TARANGIRE NP

Flight Zanzibar – Arusha Airport 11:30 – 12:30. Transfer to Tarangire National Park.

You’ll be picked up from your Zanzibar accommodations and taken to Zanzibar Airport for your flight across to Arusha.

Upon arrival in Tanzania’s safari capital, you’ll be met by your Shadows of Africa driver and whisked away to Tarangire National Park. Considered to be Tanzania’s most underrated park, Tarangire is a fascinating landscape of baobab trees, large elephant herds (the largest in Tanzania), baboons, buffalo, lions, impala, giraffes, zebras, and more.

After your afternoon game drive and picnic lunch, you’ll be taken to your overnight accommodations.

After your day’s drive is done, you’ll retire to your campsite/lodge for the evening.

DAY 2 – TARANGIRE – SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

We’ll take an early breakfast, as we’ve got a big day of exploration and adventure ahead of us! We’ll begin the day with the scenic drive towards the Serengeti. Along the way we’ll pass through the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to glimpse cape buffalo, baboons, or even elephants and leopards in the dense undergrowth.

Our first stop of the day will be at the Oldupai Gorge (also known as the Cradle of Mankind). Here you can see some of the oldest fossil evidence in the world of human habitation, visit the Oldupai Gorge Museum to learn more about the human journey, and take in the stunning views of this stark gorge country.

We’ll then continue on to one of the famous Masai bomas, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness traditional Masai dance, visit an authentic Masai village, and even do a little souvenir shopping at the local market.

After a delicious lunch at the Serengeti National Park picnic area, it’s time to explore the Serengeti itself. Witness Africa’s iconic savannah landscape and be amazed by the sheer number of animals that roam these grassy plains.

DAY 3 – SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

We’ll wake with the sunrise today, as we’re going out to watch as the sun rises over the Serengeti in a true ‘Circle of Life’ moment. Accompanied by the melodic singing of the birds, we’ll search for leopards and lions hunting their morning meals and soak in the utter tranquility of the Serengeti at daybreak. It’s a wake up you’ll not soon forget.

We’ll return to your campsite or lodge for a late breakfast at 9.00am. Pack your belongings and freshen up, and then we will continue our game drive at 10.30am and stay in the wilderness for the rest of the day. Our safari drive will continue according to the time of year and we will follow the animals on their trail. Your Shadows of Africa guide will expertly guide you throw the park, ensuring you see and experience the very best that the Serengeti has to offer.

DAY 4 – SERENGETI NP – NGORONGORO CRATER

After breakfast, we get right on the road back towards the Ngorongoro Crater National Park.

When you get your first glimpse of this vast, verdant caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you’ll soon understand why it has earned such a lofty reputation.

Home to over 120 species of mammal including the fabled Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought after safari destinations in the world. It’s a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grass plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippopotamus enjoying the cool water.

From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, you’ll be able to observe and photograph some of Africa’s most recognisable faces. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, cape buffalo, and more. It is truly one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.

After the thrills and excitement of the day, you will have a picnic lunch by the park’s famous hippo pool.

DAY 5 – NGORONGORO CRATER – LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK – ARUSHA – ZANZIBAR

After breakfast, you’ll depart from your hotel for Lake Manyara National Park. The park is truly a photographer’s playground and offers some of the best game viewing in the world. You can expect to see all of Africa’s most well-known animals, with the tree-climbing lions a particular treat. These proud predators lounge in acacia trees practically begging to be photographed.

Bird-watchers will find Lake Manyara is an absolute delight, with a huge variety of birds on display in the park. Even the novice can expect to be amazed by large flamingo flocks, circling birds of prey, and the brightly coloured lilac breasted roller.

After the lunch, you will leave the park to catch your flight.
